Flexible packaging material is leading the growth for plastics industry

Freedonia, the international industry research company recently published a new study on the global long-term market trends within plastics industry. The study concludes the flexible packaging is one of the main segments that are going to lead the growth within the plastic industry.

According to the publication, global demand for converted flexible packaging is forecasted to grow 3.5 per cent per year to over 19 million metric tons in 2013. “Factors contributing to rising demand will include growth in food and beverage production, which represents the largest market by far,” says the report. “In addition, cost, performance and source reduction advantages, as well as ongoing developments in high-barrier resins and value-added features, will continue to favour flexible packaging products over their rigid counterpart.”
